The Adrenaline

Yesterday went to Pulau Ubin for our branch outing as it was Hari Raya Puasa PH. We had our lovely breakfast of the famous ipoh horfun and delicious carrot cake at Changi Village before we set our stuff and took a ferry over. All of us rented a bike and I was on a double with Glads, but I guess she wasn't able to cycle me partly due to my weight and the bicycle gear seems quite tight. We keep moving to the side, so it was pretty difficult. Chan Chan eventually cycle me around and once we start, it drizzled and very soon it started pouring. I guess heaven is testing our spirits, Hahs!

Chan Chan and I had a hard time cycling up the slope. I tried to cycle as fast and hard as possible but the bicycle was still moving really slowly. Also, it was too fast when going down slope and I can't even reach my peddles. Hahaha! But the wind blowing in my hair felt great :)

The rain got bigger so we took shelter near Jalan Durian. We pile on insect repellents, sunblock and mozzie patch. In a short 15 mins or so, the rain stop and we continue our journey up to Chek Jawa. We set our bicycles aside and took a boardwalk. We took countless pictures I guess. The misty sky and green waters are a work of art. It's not the best scenery, but it sets you in a trance.

After the long long walk, we went to our bikes and the rain picked up again! We cycle to the wrong end and had to make a detour. I think Chan Chan had a hard time cycling because his legs are aching for awhile before the trip.

It was pouring and the coffeeshops were flooded. We decided the people are not going to leave the place even if they had finish their food because it's raining and there's no other place for shelter already. We return our bikes and made our way out to the bustling area and took a ferry back to Changi Village. The ferry back to Changi Village was a little nauseating but thankfully it was a short trip.

We had lunch at Ubin First Stop restaurant which was not that fantastic as we all thought a random coffee shop stir-fry would have been better. Still we paid for around approx. $20 per pax.

After lunch, most of us went home to rest while Glads, Chan, Mike and I went bishan prawning! There was suppose to be more people joining us such as Jeff and Sophia, William, Pansy, Sharon, but they had other plans eventually. A little dissapointing, because I was wondering how 4 people are going to have fun prawning, especially it's me, chan and glads' first time. I thought we will probably be staring and waiting for a long time before we catch something.

So fortunately, there's Mike who's really good at this prawning and fishing. He showed us a photo where he caught a stingray out in the seas which was so cool! The feeling of catching my first prawn was liberating and I can't imagine the excitement of catching something so huge like a stingray.

Glads and I were tempted by the ice-cream parlour next to us so we bought coke floats and rum & raisins/mango sorbet ice-cream ♥ I really like the not so heavy rum and raisins. Hees.. :P

Mike taught us how to prawn and we were doing pretty good compared to our neighbours. We caught around 50 prawns in all sizes! Lol! We had one big, one medium and one baby. Haha! 3 long hours and 50 prawns was pretty amazing :)

While we found our pit to start our barbecue, our pit neighbour took a look at our net and congratulated us which was quite funny. The funnier part is when Glads and I went to order satays and chicken wings. We decided to order some since the auntie was walking around the pond every 5 mins screaming. 'Satay, Chicken Wing, Otah... Fries, Chicken Wing, Western Food....!!!!' that got us quite frustrated while we were prawning. Apparently the way the auntie ask her customers if they want chicken wings is by flapping her arms vigourously like how a chicken does with its wings and then reach out her hands and give the 'you want how many?' pose. We laughed like mad. You made my day, chicken wing auntie.

I had the honours to finish my big prawn. After which, a lady caught a big one that's double the size of the one I caught. It was about the size of a medium crayfish. Super cool! So Mike sent us home after the prawning and barbecuing session.

I had a great time yesterday and I felt like a pampered kid. I hope there's more to come and hopefully more people joining us. For now I need to be a good girl and practice my piano. Whether I'll pass or fail, I still have to do some practicing. It's in a week's time. I'll do my best :)

*photos will be up soon!
